„Smile Design“comprises smile analysis and planning of the veneer. Like an architect designing a building, different aspects have to be taken into account. The character of ones smile can tremendously be influenced by changing the proportion and the color of teeth. A good dentist must be able to design a patient’s smile and obtain his immediate satisfaction. After all a smile is the most important expression of individuality. In this context photos and video recordings are important tools. They serve for a better planning and for communication between dentist, patient and technician.

Our smile stands for candor and amity. It is good for our health, alleviates stress and enhances attractiveness.
We automatically feel attracted to smiling people. A smile is a major pull factor.
A smile is mainly characterized by our teeth and the lips give the frame to their appearance. The actual expression of a smile is formed in the face. Beauty is not an objective measure following strict geometrical rules. In fact a patient’s character has also to be considered. An individual denture that expresses special requirements and every single patient’s features forms the basis for a perfect smile. Smile design will allow us to analyze and judge upon single facial structures in relation to each other. Center of the face, lip lines, nose and eyes should never be assessed in isolation. A smile appears harmonic only if proportions between all structures are properly balanced. Before the actual treatment the goals have to be clear and visualized to the patient by the help of wax-ups and mock-ups.
A wax-up is a simulation of the final treatment result on a plaster model, designed by our technician on the basis of photos and the digital treatment plan. During the second treatment session the wax-up simulation will be transferred into the patient’s mouth using a temporary resin composite to further visualize the treatment outcome. The patient immediately will get a first impression of the veneers. Thus minor amendments and requests may be considered prior to treatment. In case the simulation is not yet satisfactory a new wax-up will be produced. Treatment will only commence when patient and dentist are completely satisfied. As a crucial advantage a mock-up offers the possibility of minimally invasive preparation (grinding) or even a non-invasive approach. Additionally phonetics (pronunciation) and function will be checked.
